SCALE JAIL
March 1 - APRIL 30
Scale Jail is almost upon us. Bad news is you have been sentenced from MARCH 1 - APRIL 30. Good news is, you can escape early. How quickly you escape is up to you. Scale Jail is MANDATORY.
Here are the rules. They are very simple. Different rules for beginners, junior high and high school.
ALL SCALES MUST BE MEMORIZED AND PLAYED WITH A METRONOME
Grades 6-7
12 major scales - quarter = 90 in 8th notes
2-octave scales - Gb, G, Ab, A
1-octave scales - Bb, B, C, Db, D, Eb, E, F
You have to pass them off in this order: Db, D, Eb, E, F, Gb, G, Ab, A, Bb, B, C
Chromatic - G below the staff to G above the staff - quarter = 70 in 8th notes
Grade 8
12 major scales - quarter = 120 in 8th notes
2-octave scales - Gb, G, Ab, A, Bb, B, C
1-octave scales - Db, D, Eb, E, F
You have to pass them off in this order: Db, D, Eb, E, F, Gb, G, Ab, A, Bb, B, C
Chromatic - Gb below the staff to C above the staff - quarter = 90 in 8th note triplets
Grades 9-12
12 major scales - quarter = 180 in 8th notes
2-octave scales - Gb, G, Ab, A, Bb, B, C
1-octave scales - Db, D, Eb, E, F
You have to pass them off in this order: Db, D, Eb, E, F, Gb, G, Ab, A, Bb, B, C
Chromatic - Gb below the staff to C above the staff - quarter = 100 in 8th note triplets
You get 3 chances to pass off a scale
You can pass off as many scales in one day as you want
You must play with a metronome and stay in tempo
You can miss 1 note per scale. If you miss more than that, you must do it again.
When you pass off all the scales, you will win a $25 Amazon gift card.
I will also put your name on my website. Bragging rights are at stake here. Who can escape the soonest?
You only get the prize if you get out of SCALE JAIL on or before April 30.
